Allan

Meet Allan Boothe: Waiter by Day, Rockstar by Night!

At the peak of the lunch hour, Allan Boothe can be seen through the Indochine windows in all black attire and a quirky smile. His serving experience at the Asian Dining Lounge in Downtown Tacoma has spanned the past five years, since the Thai restaurant’s opening, making him the longest working front of the house staff member.

When asked for his menu recommendation, he responds without hesitation. “Gang Curry Chicken, five stars with fish sauce and birds eye chili. [This way] you get the salt, the sweet, the spicy all in one.” He nods assuredly as he tacks on a coconut martini to mellow out the fiery affects.

He’s a brave man, whether pouring on the peppers or spicing up the local music scene. Yet he’s far from outspoken. The praise and applause haven’t clouded his head (yet). Instead he appears modestly relaxed, stepping onto the stage into the spotlights as all remaining nerves seemingly slip away. “I become some interesting characters in this atmosphere we create. It’s radical.”

Humble Cub
Humble Cub, they call themselves, with Allan on lead guitar and vocals, Adam Hall on bass and back-up vocals, Carson Churchill on guitar and Geoff Weeg on drums.

Currently the band is mixing a new record set to be released in the next couple months. This melodic foursome is also gearing up for a week-long tour to help spread their ‘ambient pop’ throughout the northwest.

Since the birth of the band six months ago, Allan has found a clear strengthening of his vocal talent due to the positive support of his band members and a solid rhythm section. “I don’t have to carry all the rhythm anymore,” Allan affirms of the most successful group he has been apart of since his solo music start in 1998. “Carson is playing with these reverberating, echo effects and I get to explore vocal sounds.”

His fans agree, acclaiming Humble Cub as one of the best bands in Tacoma. The audience seems to appreciate the genuine approach and delivery that together with various dimensions of sound and clever, poetic lyrics, suspend an adventurous, dreamlike atmosphere. All in all, their undeniable love for the music and the stage exude true passion.

“We’re not afraid to try something that may be horrible, but may be great...”

A refreshingly fearless note to end on.
